About us
Here at Pickwell, we’re always trying to make it as easy as possible for everyone who stays with us to enjoy our beautiful woods and outdoor spaces, so they can feel as connected to our gorgeous North Devon coastline as possible. Whether you are here for a couple’s romantic retreat or a for family holiday we have space to cater for everyone.
For the children we created a family nature trail, pixie and tyre swings for children. We even moved our games room into the grounds! You can discover more about Pickwell Manor here.
Then one day we thought, wouldn’t it be brilliant if you could live outside too, and not just play? If you could spend a few days in the woods in your very own boutique treehouse, hidden away from the world?
The best of both worlds
Well, now you can. Our three treehouses are built with a combination of age-old craftsmanship and 21st-century technology. The Loft and The Hideaway were both designed and built by the award-winning Simon Parfett and his Somerset company Bower House. The Den was built by Roundhouse designs of Bristol, and was finished by our wonderful team of local Devonian craftsmen - who worked on all three treehouses and gave each its beautiful finish.
All three offer down-to-earth simplicity along with enough small extravagances to make you feel pampered. In keeping with our ethos here, they’re completely sustainable. Your heat and light comes from our own solar panels and the water in your hot tub is straight from our own natural spring.
Welcome to our manor
All our facilities, from the children’s pirate island to our small animals enclosure to the tennis court, are here for you to enjoy, and our on-site managers Julia and Simon will do everything they can to make sure you’re looked after (and left alone). We hope you love exploring the acres of grounds, including the gorgeous, sprawling woods that sit either side of the manor house and are a leafy home to our treehouses. Whether it’s the blanket of April bluebells or the falling leaves in Autumn, the woods here are always changing, always magical, always alive.
Best of all though is the view you get when you’re standing amongst the trees, looking west to the Atlantic Ocean and the breath-taking views of the coastline just half a mile away. If you’re really lucky you can sometimes hear the sound of the ocean whooshing through the trees as it comes up from the beach below
We hope you love being here as much as we do.
